A note from Karen and Tracey... Welcome February! We would like to start this newsletter off with some very exciting news...Miss Rachel is expecting her first baby this summer! We are all over the moon excited for her and her family, I know the children will be excited as well! We have many exciting events in school this month and as always, our teachers are working hard on creating exciting learning activities for the children. Please be sure to read the daily sheets and Pre school boards so you know what activities your child participates in each day. February News This month teachers will also be sending home Progress Reports. The teachers will hand them out before vacation. As a reminder, we are closed February 20th-24th. We will be having a Valentine Party in all classes, please read your child's section to see how many children are in the class. Rather than writing who the Valentine is for, we ask that you only put your child's name on them. This way it makes passing them out easier and all of the children can do so independently. We will also serve a special snack so there is no need to pack a morning snack on the 14th! We encourage all to wear red or pink! Our 100th Day of school will be on Monday, February 13th. The Pre-k has many fun activities planned for that day! Classroom News Infants We can't believe how big all the infants are getting. They are all on the move!! We have been very busy coloring with crayons, finger painting and popping bubbles. We have been getting outside as much as we can. We will be making something special for Valentine's Day. Please make sure to wear the color red, pink or purple on February 14th. Just some reminders: Please make sure you are labeling what is inside your child's food containers. Please make sure your child's cubby has weather appropriate clothing. Please make sure you are signing in/out everyday. Total number of children: 7 Toddlers For the month of February we have two main themes; I Feel Fine and Monkeying around. I Feel Fine is mainly about the doctor, the dentist, and our hearts. We will be learning about how doctors can help us when we are sick as well as how the dentist helps us with our teeth! We have also included a section about brushing your teeth and finding our own heartbeat! Our monkeying around theme is all about monkeys, the rainforest and what other animals live there. We will be learning about how monkeys act and the sounds they make. We have also planned a big rainforest obstacle course that will take place at the end of the month! We are also still adding on to our sign language. Our color for this month is pink! Looking forward to an exciting month!! Total number of children: 9 Miss Beth This months theme will focus on Groundhogs Day, the Super Bowl...GO PATS, Valentines, Presidents and dental hygiene. For groundhogs day our class will be watching the live feed of Punxsutawney Phil. The children are very excited to find out the results! This month I would like children to become more independent. Putting on their shoes, using a tissue, and self care awareness are all things we will work on. It is important that you teach your child how to properly use a tissue as well. As always, we have been working on coughing and sneezing into our elbows. Please remind your child at home to use these manners as it is helpful in stopping the spread of germs and illnesses. Our class has been doing a fabulous job at helping others and myself, they also give the best compliments! They are aware of their feelings and their classmates feelings. Many times I have watched students give each other hugs when they are sad and its a great thing to witness. So lets keep up the empathy! Our class has been doing a terrific job with Ms. Christina's mini lessons. Ms. Christina changes up her mini lessons, but everyday the children work on math, science and literacy. Ask them about Mat Man! Total number of children: 14 Miss Dara We've had so much fun learning about polar bears and penguins last month. This month we are going to learn about Valentine's Day and what it means to be a great friend, Presidents' Day, and Dental week. This months letters will be L and Y and then reviewing all letters we have learned this year. The children have been doing great with their letters and really enjoy the activities we do in the class. Miss Christina has been coming in to work with them on math and literacy as well. Please be sure to look around the room and read the daily board to see what we do each day! Total children in class: 7 Miss Christina (Beth and Dara's classes) This month for literacy, we will be continuing to build on our rhyming skills, as well as differencing! For math, we will continue to focus on patterns. I will be writing what we do on your child's board so be sure to check it out each day! I have many hands on learning activities for the children this month! Miss Rachel This month our themes will be Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, and dental health. I have a variety of books, crafts, centers and whole group activities that correspond with each theme to keep the children engaged. Each week the children will be participating in either a cooking project or a hands-on science activity. We have a few party days this month to look forward to… Friday the 3rd: Super bowl party (Go Patriots!) Monday the 13th: 100th day of school. I can’t believe we’ve been in school for 100 days! Time flies when you’re having fun. We will be counting to 100 a lot on this day. The students can bring in a hundred of something to share with the class. Please make sure it’s something small, such as; stickers, coins, cotton balls, goldfish, marbles. We will also be using these items for a math activity. Tuesday the 14th: Valentine’s Day party. We have a total number of 11 children in the classroom. Please send your child into school wearing something red or pink. This month we will be learning about the letters H, Qu, and C. The students have been doing an awesome job identifying the beginning consonant sounds in words. I will begin working with the kids on identifying the ending consonant sounds in one syllable words. This will strengthen their letter sound knowledge, as well as help them to begin decoding words. This skill will also help the children when we begin using inventive spelling during story writing next month. The students are enjoying our new literacy/writing area. I will be adding a few new vocabulary words to the word wall for us to practice during morning work. Mid-February we will begin a new math unit on shapes. The children will learn to identify, describe, sort, compare and create two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
