A note from Karen and Tracey... In like a lion, out like a lamb (we hope!) Another busy month is in store for your children and we are very excited about March! We started the month off by celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday. The children had green eggs and ham for snack and we also made Oobleck after we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. The children enjoyed celebrating last week! This month the school will also learn about dinosaurs. During library and classroom time the children will read stories, learn songs, create crafts, and explore to learn all about dinosaurs. Get ready to see the hallway transform to prehistoric times over the next few weeks! March News We will be having a St. Patrick's Day Party in all classes, please have your child wear green! We will also serve a special snack so there is no need to pack a morning snack on the 17th. March is Reading Awareness Month. If you or a family member would like to read to your child's class in March or April, please let us know! Mystery Readers can visit any day at 10:00. Classroom News Infants We hope you all had a nice week off!! Hopefully the nice weather will be staying for good so we can get our little ones outside as much as possible! Please remember to pack weather appropriate clothing each day so we can get out if it's nice! Food ideas/suggestions: If your child is eating finger foods, like us, variety is important so here are some suggestions: Sandwiches (cut in small squares)-cheese, sunbutter, deli meat Fruits/veggies (cut in small pieces)-cucumbers, berries, cooked carrots, squash, mashed potatoes, grapes Main course (cut in small pieces)-hot dog, pasta, chicken, turkey, steak, pizza, chicken nuggets We also recommend that you leave some snack options in the classroom in case your child doesn't care for something sent in or is still hungry (i.e. cheerios, veggie sticks, puffs, crackers) If your child will be transitioning soon to toddlers, we ask that you please send in a lunch box with ice pack and two sippy cups (one water and one milk) as that will be requested in that room. It would be helpful for us if you could please put your child's crib sheet on each Monday. Feel free to dress your child in green on St. Patrick's Day!! Please make sure to sign your child in and out each day. Please also make sure all food containers and bottles are labeled with name and contents. We look forward to a fun filled March with some projects and outside time! Sincerely, Ashleigh & Traci Toddlers Since March is National Reading Awareness month we have so many reading activities and projects for the toddlers to take part in. We have also decided to incorporate two other themes as well; Dr. Seuss and St. Patrick's Day! Our Dr. Seuss theme will help us with our counting as well as going over our colors. Our St Patrick's Day theme we will be learning about rainbows, leprechauns and why we celebrate St Patrick's Day! Like previous months we will still be expanding our sign language! Be sure to wear green on Friday March 17th! Miss Beth Hello everyone and welcome back! I hope you all had a great break. For the month of March we have a few themes. We will be doing Dr. Seuss, Saint Patrick’s Day and Dinosaurs. We have been doing a fabulous job at rhyming and I'm excited to do more rhyming when we do Dr. Seuss. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday on the 2nd by making green eggs and ham! The children have been doing a great job earning links and have earned a class pet! I’ll be taking a class vote but I think a fish is the best way to go! With this, children will learn about responsibility, what it takes to take care for a pet and the daily routine. Our class has been doing a great job at gross motor skills. They love doing yoga, somersaults, obstacle courses and movement time with Mrs. Brenda. They are getting better at balance and body awareness. This month we will continue to work on fine motor skills such as, cutting, tracing, gluing, writing and coloring. Our class is also doing fabulous with math concepts. This month we are working on patterns. Miss Christina has been doing a fabulous job with math and literacy. This month is also Literacy Awareness Month, we have lots of fun activities planned! Miss Dara Hey everyone hope you all had a wonderful February break. It is great to be back. The children were all so excited to be back together. For the month of March we will be learning about Dr. Seuss and Dinosaurs. We will also focus on St. Patrick's day and reading readiness. Miss Christina (Beth and Dara's classes) This month for literacy, we will be working on sequencing. For math, we will continue to focus on patterns by extending and creating our own! I will also be working with the children who will be in pre-k next year to begin recognizing, spelling and writing their names! Miss Rachel We have some fun things going on in Pre-k during the month of March. Our themes this month are; Dr. Seuss, outer space, St. Patrick’s Day, spring and an author study on Eric Carle. I have a variety of books, crafts, centers and whole group activities to correspond with each theme. We will continue participating in a science experiment or cooking activities each week. On Thursday March 2nd, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday. I have some special activities planned to help us celebrate, I hope the kids are ready to try some yummy green eggs and ham. On Friday March 17th, we will be having a St. Patrick’s party. Please send your child into school wearing something green. Hopefully we don’t have any mischievous leprechauns visiting the classroom. We are moving onto vowels this month! We will be focusing on the vowels A, E, I and O. The students will continue reviewing previously learned letters each day to help reinforce letter recognition and letter sounds. This month I will begin introducing a new sight word each week for the kids to learn. I have an ice cream cone on the circle time wall and at the beginning of each week we will add a new sight word “ice cream scoop”. The students will also begin working on spelling and writing their last names. For math this month, we will continue the unit on shapes. This unit includes identify, describe, sort, compare and create two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
